Impression
In a street where more hotels are situated, this stately hotel lies at the end of it. The spacious entrance welcomes everyone from as far as the corner. The outside looks very well kept, but doesn’t really fit in the street. Brussels with its broad streets has many apartment complexes where this hotel is build in the middle of it.
reception
The reception was at the visiting time a bit messy. There was a great conference going on - it is Brussels – and because of that some alterations were made. However the whole stays something to look at. Is it the luxury ancient royalty had, or the stairs that winds upstairs in the back of the hall? The hotel looks very neat, but there are a few things that need fixing.
public areas
Like earlier mentioned hall, there are other spaces that you will walk through as a guest. The stairs and corridors are neat, but don’t have the air you are expecting. It fine, but the ‘Metropole’ has handled this better. There is no swimming pool in this hotel, which isn’t strange considering the age of this building.
rooms
The different kinds of rooms look very neat and modern. They have an air conditioning system and minibars. You could sleep here easily, especially in one of the bigger suites of about 35 m². A lot of attention is given on the lights. Something that, especially in older hotels, is often forgotten.
halls
The ‘salons’ as they are called, are really suitable for parties. The most impressive hall is the ‘Plaza Theatre’ hall. This old movie theatre hall has been renovated completely and is extremely suitable for a big wedding party. Further more, this hotel has several smaller halls that by the way can easily be mistaken for being the big hall.
situation
As mentioned earlier, this hotel is situated near other hotels. It is very near to the cultural centre of Brussels, it wouldn’t cost you more than a five-minute walk. Several railway stations and conference facilities are also in the near area (about 2 km) and because they aren’t in the centre of the city, they can be reached easily by car. The street next to the hotel is however a busy one; so don’t expect to be woken up by chirping birds.
