Impression
For a long time this hotel has been known as a hotel for the jet set. We do, however, feel that the quality of the hotel has been on the decline ever since it became a NH hotel – NH is not known for its expensive and exclusive hotels. Despite the unpleasant presence of the red-light district, the hotel still has a very good reputation. Several wedding guests of crown prince Willem Alexander and his bride princess Maximá stayed in this hotel during the wedding celebrations.
reception
We met with a rather cool welcome. It could have been a lot more sociable, but perhaps you cannot have everything. Considering the neighborhood, it is very agreeable that there is someone waiting for you to help you out of your car and ensure that your car is taken safely to the parking lot - the porter is definitely not an unnecessary luxury.
public areas
The public areas are what we would like to call stately, modern yet stylish. In the lounge you can sit and have a drink in a pleasant atmosphere while enjoying the excellent view it gives you of Dam Square.
rooms
The rooms are beautifully furnished, a bit Royal we thought. They are fitted out with all modern conveniences, and should you need more than a trouser press, the hotel will gladly arrange a tailor for you in no time at all.
halls
The famous Wintertuinenzaal is the showpiece of this hotel. This enormous room truly takes your breath away and sends goose bumps all over your body. It is ideal for both parties and conferences and you will simply not believe your eyes when you organize festivities here. The other rooms in the hotel are suitable for business meetings, but after you have seen the Wintertuinenzaal you will want nothing else.
situation
The location is, of course, excellent. Next to the hotel is the luxury department store De Bijenkorf, and the Royal Palace is right across the street. The popular shopping street Kalverstraat is also only a few feet away and public transport is readily available. The only downside is the red-light district right behind the hotel.
